Curating an Intentional Life

What is Curation?

Think about this statement….the more items we own, the less we value them.

The meaning of Curation is the action or process of selecting, organizing, and looking after the items in a collection or exhibition.

Curation is an intentional process, a mindset. As I browse the museums I think about how the museum creator thinks- each item reflects the greater intention of the exhibit.

We curate many things in our lives: objects, pictures, friends, and the list goes on. As we look at our overstuffed closets we are reminded that “ more” does not make us happy. And, the more we own, it seems the more we want. We continue to look for the next thing that might satisfy us.

The decision of what to say “yes” to in our lives becomes very strategic, and intentional. How we attach meaning to the pieces that make up our lives has a large influence on the quality of our life. We are bringing consciousness to our surroundings and all the parts of our life.

As we think about “editing” our life, it gives us a sense of control. Editing can make us calm and happy. Curation is an incremental practice, and like yoga or other practices, we make incremental gains.

As we think about Curating an Intentional Life we examine the various parts of our lives: objects, friendships, and time…..and how to choose carefully without feeling deprived or guilty.

As we approach the end of this year, the timing is pristine to think about the new life we want to curate!

How to begin:

Start with one area of your life, such as objects.

Start small, with lots of intentional thought.

Consider what is serving a purpose for you, or what you are ready to let go of.

Now, think very intentionally about how you would like to fill your space.
